Integra
I may/may not get a 1987 acura integra for free, the guy who owns isnt sure what hes wants to do with it..The car is parked at where i work (condos) and the guy who owns it gave my dad the keys to start it up every now and then to charge the battery etc, while hes stays up in Newyork for some other job.
Today my dad started up the car, and let me test drive it around the condo streets (not a town road, good enough sence i dont have my permit yet) and it runs/drives fine. the temp guage was climbing up...i put the heater on to try and keep it down for the time being, which worked. But thats not what im so concerned about if i do get it. The sticker for the last oil change sed for 90,000 miles, the car has 189,000 miles. Do you think i just read it wrong or would an engine even run any more if it did go that long without an oil change, perhaps thats the reason it got hot? The check engine light wasnt on, nor was the oil pressure light ethier. Im basically asking if the car did go this long without an oil change would it even run or did i have to read somthing wrong, or if it did still run, what to be expected for internal engine
damage.
as for engine damage for leaving oil in that long, fried bearings, scratched up cyl walls, fried piston rings, and the list goes on and on. did the car run ok no nocking from the engine or blue smoke from the tail pipe?
you cant argue with free, even if its got some problems just run it tell it dies.
like i said before its hard to imagine oil being in there for that long, but stranger things have happend.
if you have access to the keys run it around for a while and see, id be more worried about the temp on it then the oil. how long did you drive the car? it is possible that the thermostat didnt open yet, watch the temp gauge it should go up to some where in normal and sit there, it may reach the hot side and then drop back down.
Sence this car gets 26 mpg city, im going to take care of it, as my bronco wont have a shining chance at getting near 26 on the highway.
The engine runs surprisingly great, no smoke at all, no knocking what so ever, as i sed the check engine light is not on when the engine is running. And it starts right up without hesistation, even after sitting for two months. Im going to re-check the sticker next time i go to work to see if i read it wrong, sence running well doesnt quite describe an engine that hasnt had its oil changed for 100,000 miles.
