One of the door switches (possibly the driver side) is faulty or mabe a logic problem on my father in laws '04 f150 super crew.
He says with the doors shut good the door ajar notice and dome / cargo lights will be on.
If the key is turned off and then on again the problem goes away!
Any clues will be helpful.
I'm assuming the doors have a proximity switch somewhere that can be tested?

I wouldn't think the door has proximity switch, thats kinda over complicated. Most doors have door pins. Maybe the pin is corroded so it doesn't register as closed. Just a thought. Might just need to be cleaned or at worst replaced.
The door ajar switch is integral with the door latch. It is available seperate the latch assembly if you need to replace it. I would soak the latch down with some WD40. My dad's was sticking in his F250 and this did the trick.
well first try the WD 40 trick. you need to soak the switch in it. simply spray it down the latch assembly. its so common that ford has this listed as a fix in their tech books.

My 98 had the same problem but did not do it consistantly. Tried the WD40 trick, no help. Ended up replacing the relay in the fuse box and bingo, has worked ever since.
