Help with door locks?

I have a 01' f350 diesel and the passenger door locks on the front and rear door will stop working occasionally. I took it to the dealer and they want to replace all the locks in all four doors but the driver side is fine. I was wondering if there is just a relay to the passenger side locks or something like that that i can change first.

You mean the power door locks don't you? Do they not work from all locations? Are they slow or weak or do they do nothing at all? Slow or weak replace them. If they make no attempt to work then its prob a connection.

Yeah poswer door locks, they will move but only like 1/8 inch. They will stop sorking one day then the next they will work. The dealer wanted to charge me over 700 bux to fix it. They said all 4 of them had to be replaced.

But why would they wanbt to replace all four when just the passenger side is not working properly, and better yet why would both tthe passenger side door locks stop sorking at the same time?

Just do two of them of course if you have to. Maybe there's a connection issue thats limiting the voltage to the units that would do that also but most guy's just replace them.

Seems to be common. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. I replaced both of mine. Install is not too difficult. First one is hardest. The rest are easy.
There is a relay for drivers door, and one for the others.

It's probably just the switches, (in the doors) not the locks. The switch contacts get worn and do not pass the 12 volts too good. They start out working one day and not the next..at least that's what happened to my old '92 F250's. I bought replacement switches from 5 Star Ford in AZ and that took care of my problem.

Actuator replacement instructions

Another member posted detailed instructions for replacing these actuators:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ghlight=cuinak
There was also another thread where someone posted how they repaired the bad actuators by modifying the motor. Sorry, but I can't find that post again. Try the search feature - I'm sure it was mentioned here in the Superduty forum.

Both my passenger side locks are intermittent, but I haven't had time to pull them. I did print out the instructions in the post above for reference when I get around to doing the job.
