Dual Piston Troubles
Hello All-
I have a '99 F150 4wd w/ 4 wheel discs. When replacing ball joints yesterday, I noticed that the inner pad on driver's front was worn unevenly. It's as though only one of the two pistons is working. If I was to just replace the whole caliper, would I necessarily have to do the passenger one as well?

I would check to make sure caliper slide pins aren't seized. These are the pins where the caliper bolts to. The pins seize in the caliper support bracket and then the caliper doesn't move freely and the pads wear unevenly.

I just decided to play it safe (it's brakes, after all) and replace both calipers. Add new calipers, new pads, newly bled brakes, and I've got a great-stopping 4x4! Ready to tow a fifth wheel and haul kids. No chances taken with my (or your) family. Seen too much...
Guess I should edit: mounting brackets replaced too... no chances taken.
