I am going to be priming my 1970 nova ss soon and I've used Universal primers and Omni MP182 surfacer but i havent used K36 which needs wash primer layed down first in order to stick to bare metal.
Omni's primer sufacer is good but omni doesnt cover as well as PPG. Has anybody had experience with The PPG Epoxy primers at all? or NCP270 % 271 primers? I would like some recommendations on what to use.
I rarely use anything but Martin Senior, but when it comes to bare metal I was taught years ago to use one product....PPG DP series. This stuff works great! You can leave it out in the weather for years and it won't rust, goes on smooth, easy to work with, just remember to mix it, let it sit its required, then spray. I have seen surface rusted cars painted with this and 5 years later, they look the same. They used to have a DP-X series, which was a self-etching version...and I know the newer stuff is more environmentally concious (but works as well).
It is an epoxy, and works well UNDER mud, that is how I was taught to use it.
mudgepondexpress - sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but could you provide a working link for the PPG DP? I have read alot of people that reccomend it and want to see what I am supposed to get. Thanks in advance.
I have no link, but I am sure you can google PPG/Ditzler and get it to pop right up. There you can see the different colors it comes in and some of its properties. Man is it expensive though, so don't overmix or waste any!
