I am getting to the point where it's almost time to put a new muffler and tailpipe on the 84. I have been concidering having my exhaust come out the passenger side in front of the rear tire. My question is would running the exhaust in front of the rear tire harm the finish on my aluminum rims?
I've been running dual exhaust in front of the rear tires on my 1980 F350 4x4 for many years with no adverse effect on my alloy wheels. I would not suggest running the exhaust directly behind the rear tires, however, because should a rear tire separate as they sometimes do, you will likely encounter serious sheet metal damage around the wheel wells.
Good to know and thank you. I heard when Ford switched body styles on light duty trucks in 97 they ran the tail pipes in front of the passenger side rear wheel. Doing this from what I have heard damaged the finish on trucks with aluminum wheels... I don't want this happening to mine. Like I said the ol girl is gettin to where she's in need of exhaust work and I want to do it right the first time. I want to do it right but spend as little money as possible. Currently I have fake duals going straight out the back, I am getting tired of busting pipe hangers all the time when off roading. I am going to build the exhaust myself so I will only have to buy materials if I do it this way. Thanx again any other input is appreciated!
