Torqshift: How do I do it?

Ok, Here's the problem. When I fire up in the morning I coast down the hill about a mile to the county road. I can either put the trans in drive and brake moderately, or I can put it in tow/haul and brake only the last little bit, or I can put it in 3rd gear and only brake a little. They all work about the same. So, my question is which is the method that causes the least long-term wear and tear? Obviously, it's cheaper to replace brake pads than rebuild the trans, but it's not as simple as that.
How do other guys do it? This is my first automatic transmission and I'm having to learn how to drive it after 50 years with a stickshift.

I would lean towards not using the towhaul 1st thing because the tranny is probrbly not at full temp.

The trans is not fragile. So there is really no need to coast. Without a load put it drive and go, with a load put it in tow mode and go and it is as simple as that. I pull a 30' fiver and use the truck as I mentioned. I have 50k and both brake pads and trans look and feel good. Good luck and enjoy the autotrans.

Use either 3rd gear or tow/haul. That's what the trans was designed to do. You're not going to hurt it by doing this.

I agree with Casey. I use my T/H mode all the time, towing or not. It's simply auto-downshifting and using engine pressure to slow you down. It's a fantastic tranny. Even better after 05E16..
