Can anybody tell me the specs on a '92 GMC/Chevy 5.7L small block V8? Displacement/HP/Torque.
The plan is to put it into my Ranger (yes...I know, a Chevy engine in a Ford truck) over the summer if the expectations of it are good. Rebuild it and drop it in there.

The answer for the displacement is in your question - 5.7L
I hope you have plenty of money for a project like this!!!
If you really want to drop a V-8 into your Ranger, the easiest would be a
Ford 302, which Explorers had!!
Yeah I know, but I a) dunno where to find a 302, and B) don't have the money to buy an all new engine, I choose the engine because it was my dad's therefore, besides rebuilding and new parts/accessories, it's free.

Zach, I'm afraid if you don't have enough money for a 4.0L V-6, you will not have enough money for all the modifications (custom wiring harness, ECM, transmission / driveshaft, larger cooling capacity, motor mounts, etc.) that
will be needed for that Chevy V-8. Then, if you throw the rebuild cost of the
Chevy V-8 on top of all I've mentioned, you are talking real big $$$.
I suggest taking the money for rebuilding that Chevy V-8, and rebuild your
4.0L....it will be much cheaper!!!

It would be big $$$ to swap in the Chevy engine/transmission, and it would be time consuming to get everything working right. If you really want a V8, you should sell your 5.7 and buy a 5.0 HO from a Mustang - it actually has more power than the Chevy 5.7 anyway, and is a lot easier to swap.
The "local" boneyard, the the one I like most, has no Explders in it, though it has a whole mess of wrecked vehicles. Even a Crown Vic with the 4.6 that attracted my attention for a bit.
The much bigger one about 20 miles away won't let minors in, which kinda screws me, being 16. My dad is all for the engine swap, but I can't drag him over there every time I wanna look at somethin'.
Older Crown Vic's had 302's, many 1/2 ton trucks, Mustangs, fairmonts, granadas, LTD's, MANY car lines, practically any rear drive line Ford made had one in it somewhere. Grand Marquis, Cougar, T-bird.... Lincoln Town Cars.... just gotta look a littel. SHould be able to get one for between $150-350. Watch eBay, they likely will have one fairly close to you. If you are doing a 2wd, the conversion to a Chev isn't so bad, it's a matter of motor mounts and trans mount and driveshaft, then the radiator because the inlet and outlet are opposite to the Ford motors. If you can fabricate, you could do it, otherwise, it will be expensive. 4wd I would be more likely to stay Ford. There are plenty of kits for doing a 302 swap. A friend of mine has done the 302 swaps, and says they are way easier than putting a 350 in a S10...
I'll just keep an eye out for a 302 then, hopefully one will turn up. I have the fabricating ability, and we could do it in auto shop, it's just a matter of finding one. Thanks for the advice fellro86!
Take a tape and measure across the 5.7 to the outside of the mainifolds.
Then do the same with a 302. Using the same tape, take some measurements inside the engine bay of you truck. The Ford 'better idea' light will come on for you.
Any engine conversion is possible. It's just that some make a lot more sense than others.
Yeah I can see that now. The 5.7 is a little too long to risk it, serious changes required just to make it fit. eBay is proving to have 302s, quite expensive, not horrible tho. I'll keep an eye on the boneyard.
