ABS light came on several years ago driving on the interstate at highway speeds. Replaced rear VSS and light went out.
ABS light came on last week driving on the interstate at highway speeds.
Cleaned rear VSS and reinstalled. ABS light still on.
Installed new rear VSS, checked all wiring connections, disconnected battery with light switch on for 30 minutes, started, idle for one minute and idle for one minute with AC on. ABS light is still on.
Note: If I start the engine with the brakes applied the ABS light goes off as normal. I can then put the truck in gear and the light stays off. When I release the brake pedal the ABS light comes on and stays on.
The speedometer and cruise control are both functioning as normal.
Any input appreciated very much. This thing is driving me nuts.
I had a issue with my abs also. I bought the abs sensors for both front wheels and one for the rear. It turns out only the rear needed replacing. Maybe one of the front abs needs to be replaced.
Have you replaced the inexpensive switch connected to (or near) the master cylinder? I've been told to try that for my cruise control that's currently inoperative. I'm talking about the same switch that was causing fires in the F150 models.
ABS light could be an indication that one of your wheel bearings are bad. The front sensors are part of the hub assembly which houses the bearing. Before my bearing went out the ABS light came on with no apparent problem with the brakes.
I too had my ABS light come on some 30,000 miles ago, then replaced the differential pickup, and light went off. Then, light comes on again just recently, differential pickup look clean / no magnetic particles etc., but bought new one anyway, did not correct problem.
I too can keep light off by depressing brakes prior to starting engine, but as soon as I let off brake the abs light comes back on.
Now just recently, every four to five days I will be driving, abs kicks in and vehicle abs shutters and Excursion pulls rather radically to the right.
Anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong / out?
I have used an old trick in the past to diagnose which front abs sensor is bad of slowing down and stepping on the brakes. I can't remember whether it is the sensor towards the pull or not. I am pretty sure it means the left sensor is bad if it goes right because the left wheel is being pulsed by the abs thinking it is slipping and the right brake is grabbing without pulsing so it pulls that direction because of constant pressure on the rotor.
Try unplugging the left sensor and try braking. See what happens! I think I am right about it being the left one if it goes right. Good Luck, hope I helped!
