Has anyone else used the Ubuntu flavor of linux? I finally got my copy in the mail and loaded it on my desktop. Its pretty cool. It found all of my hardware and didn't require and extra configuration. I am trying to figure out how to load new Nvidia drivers, but it worked before so I am just playing.
I have Ubuntu running in dual - boot along with Window$. It is the closest linux distro to being able to be a mainstream option in my opinion. Detected all my hardware with no problems and has been a real pleasure to learn linux on.
Is that some SW package out of Nigeria or something??? -jk
Where do you get it?
I have been looking for a good package to load on a desktop to use for a desktop and a small local file server for movies and songs as well as to learn more about Linux. All the ones I have tried in the past had too many problems finding my hardware and they required driver installs that were beyond my capabilities as a Linux nube to use. Just setting up the hard drive to install was a real pain and absolutely unnecessary.
Its actually from a french organization I think. Ubuntu has a lot of great how tos on their site if you need help configuring things. I went through and recompiled my kernel and updated the nvidia driver in about 10 minutes. They also will mail you the disks for free if you request them from the site. Pretty cool distro if you ask me.
The location (not France):
Many people who have never been to the Isle of Man are not sure exactly where it is! The answer is that it lies in the Irish Sea, between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, less than 60 miles west of the Lancashire coastline.

Eric, Ubuntu has on their site the Live CD download. Download it and burn it to a CD and then reboot with the CD and it loads up Ubuntu without making any changes to your current OS. I haven't done much with it so far but it seems to work well.
