I picked up a 02 7.3 Limited 4x4 solid black with 76000 miles, perfect condition. They were asking 26,900 and I got it for 23,000. This thing runs strong, its got a K&N filter kit on it and I'm wondering if its been reprogrammed.
What brand turbo is stock on this?
Time for a Hellwig, Bilsteins, bigger tires, and...

Garret is the stock turbo, at least that is what I have on my 2000 Ex. What is making you think it's been reprogrammed?
On edit, congrats on the purchase. Like to see some pics.

I wonder if its been reprogrammed because it runs stronger than I expected, which is good! I had a 6.0, but I know it runs a lot better than my ex-girlfriends 7.3 in her 2000 F250
I did a search and it pulled up a zillion pages so I'll just ask again... What is the name of my transmission, 4R100? and what tranny fluid is recommended? I know my previous torqueshift wasnt supposed to use anything different than what it came with.
I figured I will do a full service so there is no question on when it was done and what was used.
Thanks

The name of your transmission is indeed the 4R100 and the proper fluid (I believe) is Mercon IV. I'd call a Ford dealership in the morning and see what they have to say regarding that. I'd also call more than one to make sure what they're telling you is accurate.
You probably do have a chip, you just don't know where to look for it. Myself or one of the other guys will post as to the location of the chip.
Is it me or does he have an 03? If it is in fact an 02 chances of it having a chip are pretty good because they updated the grill too! One way to see if its chipped is to get a boost gauge, something that will come in handy down the road. Plus, you can never have too much information about how your vehicle is running!
is there a certain brand of fluid that seems most popular or just stick to motorcraft?
Your right on the chip location, are those in the cab or under the hood?
Guages are on my growing list of things to come. I wish that Banks pda moniter was available for this thing. I have a Xcalibrator from Innovative Diesel that was for my 6.0 and never got to use because the computer flash didnt match. I'll see if they will credit me towards something that will work on this one.

Manufacture date is 04/02 which I guess would be a late 02, I didnt realize they changed them.
It does have a K&N FIPK on it, the filter is beat up and needs replaced, Im trying to figure out if a AFE proguard 7 or whatever it is will fit. I heard they are a better filter. ??
I think a full service then new BFGs are first on the list.

The PROguard 7 is a better filter, in fact, it's probably the best one out there. The PROguard 7 consists of heavy medical grade gauze that doesn't let much of anything through....but air.
As far as why your X looks the way it looks:
Late 2001 Ford was having a tough time with sales, so they introduced the "No Boundaries" Excursion as well as the "Platinum Edition" Super Duty. The PE Super Duty ran for one model year, while the NB X carried until it's production ceased. (The NB X ran well into 2003 when it was renamed the "Limited".) You have one of the few "No Boundaries" Excursions out there.

Thanks for the replies
With the Xcalibrator, they should be able to send you a file via email that would work, I think. Or is that the Xcal 2?
At any rate, I have a friend in Georgia that owns a Ford Performance shop. One of his specialties is the PSD. Not sure on the boards rules of posting about non-supporting businesses, so I won't post the name or anything here. Give me a shout via PM or email if you want his information.

I'm leaning towards the X-Cal 2, either way you're right. Jody Tipton or anyone of the other 7.3 gods can create a custom tune for you, all they need is the answers to a few questions and your PCM code.
