Gotta pretty substantial exhaust leak up on the manifold. Its an 88 F250. I figure this would be a good time to install a header, since the manifold would have to come off to repair the leak.
Heres the thing--my exhaust has no catyletic converters at all. The big cat is long gone, and the front one is gone too, as that peice was replaced with a Walker down pipe.
Because of this, I am wondering if I could get away with using the headers for the carbed 300s, since they are less expensive. Such as these--
Same set of headers I'm using. I never had any problems getting them to seal and stay sealed but there have been a few reports of sealing problems with these headers.
I have the Hedman street headers on my 1985 F-250 but I don't think I have had them long enough to give you any input on them, except that they were pretty easy to put on. I like them so far. I had to remove the starter to install them, and I had to remove the smog pump bracket, so I don't how well your emmisions controls would work after that, but maybe an '88 is different and you don't have to remove the bracket. And in the future if your starter goes bad you will have remove your header to replace it, at least that is the way it is on my '85. Here is the link from Summit for the Hedmans. Click on the link that says "check to make sure this part fits your application". I think it says they will fit an 88 http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=89300&searchinresults=false&Ntk=Ke ywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp&x=24& y=8
