Hey all you Ford enthusiasts! i am having a problem finding a power steering pulley for a 1972 ford 390!! i need to know if i can use a different one or where to obtain an aftermarket! all help is greatly appreciated!! i also need to know what kinda of motor will bolt up in the truck with a granny four speed? i want to change the motor and want to know what other motors will bolt up and anybody that knows where to find an aftermarket 390 preferably a crate package is greatly needed! thanks
For the power steering pulley I would try the junk yards first. Don't just call them. You should go down to their lot because many of them have truck bed loads of pulleys and they usually won't go through all of them because it takes time and they won't make alot of money on one pulley. On the motor- there was a good thread a while back on reputable rebuilders that gave excellent warranties. Check the site search.
For your engine, without changing the bellhousing and/or tranny your going to have to stick with an FE, 360, 390, 427, 428 will all work. I dont know where you might find a crate FE, they quit making them in '76, so its going to be hard. You shouldnt have any trouble finding a rebuilt one.
Try www.jobrite.com/ they have had everything I could dream up when it comes to Ford parts. Just beware that they are in BC Canada and there are duties paid on anything shipped out of their country.
I was happy to find this post, but I wanted to make one correction. jobrite is at http://www.jobriteauto.com Thanks for the lead on this. I was looking into power steering on my brand new 72 f250 4x4 390.
