Hey,
I was thinking putting in some Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1 in my 92 Ford F150.
I've got 214,009 miles on the motor.And I've been useing Pennzoil 10-w30.
Would ya'll change or keep putting the same oil in the good old motor?
Do you think the synthetic would help the old motor ?
Hello- Welcome to FTE! I have moved your post to the specialized forum we have here for your question. Check out the list of tech forums we have on FTE. There is a wealth of information and expertise here to help you. There are a number of links in my sig below to help you also. Have fun!
It won't hurt the engine. It might start leaking like a sieve though since the synthetic will do a better job of cleaning the crap out of the seals and gaskets. Of course, that crap is keeping the regular oil in..
You don't want to use a synthetic now. Any of the PAO synthetics will have some form of ester to bind the add pack to the basestock. This ester will have great solvency and will remove any varnish or sludge you may have in the engine. I'd bet money on a lot of leaks. I would stick with the oil that got the ol' girl this far.
I wouldnt switch to a synthetic now. Like the others have said, lots of cleaning action going on and leaks will develop. That and I wouldnt worry about putting synthetic in an engine with that kind of mileage. I would stick with dino, it done took the motor that far, might as well keep using it.
I kept with the same oil that I have always used in the truck.
You hear all sorts of stuff from the guys at work.
But when it all comes down to it,ya'll are right.
The reg.oil has done a good job so for so why change now.
Maybe the old ford will run another 2,000,000 miles or more.
The motor hasn't been apart on the inside.
Thanks
I changed to Amsoil at 152000 mi on my f150 and 232000 on my burb, no more leaks than that were allready there none got worse, believe me or not starting getting better mileage, cooler running temps, better oil pressure...That throttle body 5.7L 350, idled at over 30 on the oil pressure guage with 232000 mi and use a qt at about 3500 mi...15-20 mpg ac blowing...I have been sold on that stuff and I will be changing my 89 f250 over to it asap...Just my 2 cts
