E40d Ford Dealer Doesnt Know
Hey, The E40d In My 1996 E4od Is Acting Up. New Filter, Fluid, Vss Sensor, And An Oversized Aftermarket Pan. Its Shifting Hard Into 1st And 2nd At Times. Disconnected Battery Overnight Problem Went Away For About 600 Miles. The Problem Came Back Changed The Filter And Fluid Problem Went Away And Came Back. Took It To Ford And The Hooked It Up Got I Think Code 60. Excessive Torque Converter Slippage Stored In Memory. But They Said They Couldnt Get It To Slip Or Shift Hard. They Said I Should Just Drive It And If The Converter Goes Replace It. But If I Do That Wont I Have To Replace The Whole Tranny Because Of All The Crap That Will Get In The Fluid? They Said The Only Other Thing They Can Reccommend Is To Change The Converter And See If The Problem Goes Away. Ok Spend 1300.00 When They Dont Know If Its The Problem Or Not. Any Suggestions. When Its Shifting Good Its Perfect. That Will Last A Couple Hundered Miles Then It Will Start Again.

Hi,
My 1994 E4OD shifted hard in 1 and 2 and it was the neutral saftey switch on the side of the transmission that some way controls the shifting.
This may not be your problem, but it sounds alot like the one I had.
