Lariat, Ranger, Custom???
Could someone enlighten me on the differences between the different F-series 76-79 packages (Lariat, Ranger, Custom, others)? What are the differences and what were available in 4x2 and 4x4?

Well Im no expert but in the 50's and early 60's custom cab was the best you could get, then in the 70's it was baseline viynl seat, rubber floormat, no exterior trim pretty much a stripped down truck similar to a newer "XL" Ranger was pretty nice usually 2 tone paint clotch seat cargo light maybe some gay woodgrain on the dash ranger insignia on the bed , then there was the explorer which was similar to the ranger and the xlt lariat was the best interior you could get im not sure about all the things the packages included but other will respond and fix what i messed up, my 75 custom is pretty bare bones it does have a headliner tho

custom was pretty much basic, lariat had a few more options and ranger xlt was the top. I had a ranger xlt with a/c, tilt wheel, tilt seats, center council, full carpet, lighted mirror in passenger side viser, slider side windows tinted, and floor vents. This was in a bronco but most were also included into pickups too

Josh, It always was my understanding the Lariat was the top of the line with things like leather seats. The Ranger XLT Lariat should be BOSS. ;-)
