Pardon my ignorance but I have a question regarding the Ford 302 small block. I have a 302 which is a rebuildable engine from a 77 F-100 for my '67 F-100 shorty project. I would like to add a few more hp than a stock engine while rebuilding the engine. The 77's 302 is a 2v carb'd engine. Are the heads on a 2v different than the heads on a 4v 302? I would like to install a 4v manifold and 600 cfm 4v carb(autolite 4100). Will this work or will I have to find heads from a 4v engine.
I think all the heads are the same except for like gt-40 heads and efi heads are a little different i think but your swap will work just fine, one question why use an autolite carb ?
Tony, if you are rebuilding and looking for power the way to get it is the engine has to breathe go for the gt40 heads or edelbrock makes some good heads for this engine and you can go with a 650 holley vac. secondaries with headers and duals it will make power. John
Thanks for the reply. The Autolite is off of a 67 289 from an old Mercury Comet. It's a 480 cfm and I have read that they were some of the most dependable 4v carbs ever built along with good economy. This one's rebuilt and ready to go. What's even better it did not cost me anything as it was given to me by a friend.
Tell me about gt40 heads. I am reading everything i can about ford stuff and I'm not familiar with quite a few things like gt40 heads. I can tell you one thing for sure this project is a real learning experience. What kind of investment am I looking at for a pair of gt40's.
Hi, they're not cheap they are probably around 700.00 for the pair they come off of cobras go to Http://www.corral.net and look around it is all mustang people and parts you should be able to get an idea of what they are doing with the 302.
