When appliying brakes I hear and feel a definite clunk on my 2000 250 5.4.
I am going to try an find it this weekend but would like some input before I start.
Symptoms:
After short or long distances of driving, when the brakes are applied I can feel something move/shift. I can also create the problem by going in reverse and braking firmly, CLUNK, then going forward braking firmly, CLUNK. I think it is in the calipers? The truck drives like a top, no shimmying, pulling, or uneven tire wear.
I have read the posts on ball joints and it doesnt SEEM like that type of problem???? What other items are susecptable to make this CLUNK in the brakes, springs, etc....? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.
Could be a swaybar endlink, too. You have 4x4? Jack up the truck and grab the tire top and bottom and push and pull it. If it moves, ball joints. From your description, that's what it sounds like. Give that a whirl and if the wheel is solid, come on back for more
