OK- here we go again. I posted this on the 87 to 96 section as well. Engine started to run poorly sputtering and no real throttle response. It runs and drives but no umf! It kind of hesitates every now and then.
Here's the million dollar ??- I was messing around in the engine wiggling hoses etc.. I accidently wiggled the vac line to the fuel pressure regulator and it broke. The engine started to run better???? OK so I rig a fix on that and it started to sputter again???? So I thought I'll try something and I pulled one of the capped off vac lines on the tree at the manifold- and it started to run better??? I replaced the cap and it went back to sputtering. Is it the EGR? Or something else that I'm missing? Air filter is new. It's almost like it needs more air. I know someone has probably experienced a similiar problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated before I start throwing parts at it. It's an 88 F-150 4.9l EFI 4wd 5 spd- 159k on the clock.

Reason: Forgot vehicle info
yeah, even if it doesnt show, it can still have codes stored on it. i just pulled the codes off of my 89 to find a miss, no light but i still had a cylinder 3 balance test failure.
why post if your not gonna help at all? if its a waste of time, then why did you post that, bumping it back up to the top and having even more people read it? todd, any updates?
I replaced the EGR valve and sensor, the IAC valve, the MAP sensor, the oxygen sensor, a couple of those brittle hard plastic vac lines with rubber lines, and cleaned the throttle body. She runs great -the best I've ever felt her run. All were original equipment and definitely in need of replacement( I probably could of cleaned them ,but I thought why not just replace and no that they are new. It was well worth the time and money. I think I'm going to do the Fuel injectors and reg etc. when it gets alittle warmer. I can only imagine what they look like ,if everything else was like this bad. I didn't pull any codes.
