After fixing the firing order, I noticed that I now have a knock when I step on the pedal. I think I may have shook a valve loose when I had the wires crossed and started the engine. I am thinking either I need a tune up or I need to togrue the valves. Any suggestions?

Shook a valve loose.....what the hell is that?
I aint even going to ask about togrueing them..............?
What I'm saying is there is a knock when I'm accerating that wasn't there before. I am thinking it had something to do with when I changed the wires. Any thoughts?....
check for codes first,
Also, since the ECU can learn how the engine runs MAYBE it got confused when the wiring was backwards and is now applying the wrong settings to the engine with the corrected firing order - maybe leave the battery off for 10 mins to reset it and then let it relearn 'how to drive'. Its a long shot though....
I've had wires crossed on my Land Rover V8 in the past and althought it ran rought it was fine after I had corrected it. Not managed to do it on the ford V8 yet!
If you reset the ECM like suggested but still have a "knock", try listening for it with a piece of rubber hose about 4 feet long. Listen to the valve covers, the oil pan and other areas on the engine. Put one end to your ear and the other on the engine, like a doctor would use a stethoscope. You may have bent a pushrod or valve with the improper timing and trying to start it. My knock was a bent connecting rod causing the bottom of the piston to hit the crankshaft journal. The loudest noise was at the rear of the motor at the bottom end, neqar the tranny bellhousing.
Mule;
If you just replaced the plug wires, I would check to make sure you don't have the plug wire for number eight running next to number seven. They say they must not be run close together or you can get crossfire and result in pinging. Also I have heard that number 2 and number 4 should be seperated as well.
It's free and it may help.
