I installed the Kwik Filter mod (6637) last night. (haven't had a chance to really test it yet)
In doing so, with the boot off, I first noticed some grime around the ccv. I wasn't suprised by it and plan to do the ccv mod soon anyway. Then, looking at the compressor wheel I saw that it's had its share of abuse over the years. One of the blades has a very small dent/chip. It's barely noticeable. Nevertheless, it'll have to go soon.
If I'm going to get into this project, what's the best way to go? I've read a lot about the WW. I can't do a BB turbo at this time. I'll have to use the stock housing for now. How much of a PITA is this project?
And so it begins.
The ever steeper, ever slippery slope of PMS (Powerstroke Modification Syndrome). Sorry there is NO CURE.
Johnny8 did an excellent picture gallery when he did his truck. It's not that hard really, but you need some specific tools to get the job done.
Is there a program to help me cope? I'm married with kids and have a mortgage! Yet I need a chip and gauges! Should I divorce and sell the kids? Anyone in the market? They're cute...
I know, Kwik. I already have it. I've waited until now to start. Thankfully I'm prettty frugal and study each thing to the n-th degree.
Fortunatly the WW is only $75.00 or so. And you'll love the new sound! More like a big rig turbo whistle instead of that "darth vader", "hoover on steroids" sound that they make with the stock wheel.
By the way, Kwik. OMG! That thing sounds like it could suck in a Yugo! At idle I didn't hear anything new. It's when you accelerate and level off that thing woofs. On the highway it's still quiet. Combined w/ the 5", it's like a turbofan jet.

Everytime I mash on the go pedal, my wife turns to the kids sitting in the back of the Excursion and says "Welcome, and thank you for flying Ford Airlines.." She even does the hand gestures pointing out the emergency exits
And so it begins.

PMS, naw I don't think so in my case it's just plain MS (modification syndrome) the wife says you don't want to get anywhere near the intake of any of the vehicles I play with cause it will suck in small childern. The ranger with a 528cid stroker I justify as my midlife crisis and tell her well my midlife crisis could be a 21 yr old blond. The PSD i have been justifying by saying this will help it last longer, but I ain't sure thats gonna fly when I order a new BB turbo oh well maybe I too should just order the WW or maybe the new housing or maybe both. Scarey part is I have already decided that when I build the new $18,000 engine for the ranger the one thats in it will get mildly detuned and stuffed into the bronco for just running around. Man this MS is bad already spent $12k on one engine now I am working on spending a bunch on the tow vehicle, and already looking at parts for a new engine oh I need a support group or something.
Good thing the kids are gone and the house, and F250 are paid for, but dang having to buy the wife a new to us 03 expy is really cutting into my modification budget.

Geoff,
Can your kids shine a PSD real good?hmmmmmm...i might be interested .
I'm wondering if the compressor wheel damage u saw could have caused an imbalance and may have degraded your journal bearing. Have u checked for bearing play?
Just a thought.
Nut
Nut, yes. The 3 year old loves to help me clean/fix the truck. He's also quite talented with heavy equipment. What it is and when it's needed. The 6 month old is just learning. You could just dress him in a heavy fleece suit and let him wriggle around the hood and shine it.
I poked in there to check if it was dragging/rubbing or shifting around. It seems Ok and the turbo sound seems normal for now. I'll have to get the stuff ready for a change anyway.

I have a similar problem with sailing. I have to sneak out once in a while to sail... I tell my wife that I could be at the bar or a strip club or worse, a motel with a yungin'. She tolerates the truck only because it's my work truck.
I try so hard to keep it clean... We'll have to start our own acronym thread.
300K, really... So I might want to keep my fingers away while it's spinning?
I think that number is a little high, after you asked I was doing some searching and I find that 150,000 rpms is about the highest anyone claims, and 75-80,000 seems like the norm.
edit I guess you have quicker fingers than I do. oh well atleast that means you still hve all your fingers right?
