Would anybody know if Ford makes a specific coil spring set for use with 460 big block in 1/2 ton pickups (1992 F150 2x4) or would i have to just go get 3/4 ton springs????
There's only 3-4 different springs for the 150-250's.The part #'s overlap for both (except 460/diesel) depending on WB,cab design,A/C or not, etc.MOOG pt. #CC-844 covers pretty much all the heavier applications.
Obviously the big block never got put into F-150's. I have the heaviest springs I could find (progressive plow springs) in the front of my F-150 and the 351 is heavy enough for them. I have heard people talking about putting a 460 into an F-150 but finding heavy enough springs was one of the issues.
You can ahve the springs made just thats alot of money totally not worth it. You could always fab somehing get creative with the F250 460 springs and stuff.
Do the F-250/350 2wd pickups use coil springs in the front. I know the 4wd ones use leaf springs, but if you could get some 460 coil springs out of a F-250 you could probably swap those in. If they don't use coil springs then you could get some coils out of a E-250 that had a 460 in it. The ride in your 150 would probably suck, but that is what I will be using springs out of when I swap a 460 in mine sometime in the next year. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
I think they put big blocks in half-tons back in the late 70's. The suspensions were darn near the same - it might be worth looking into a spring from an older truck.
Like I said earlier, there's only a few different springs (coil) for these trucks. And they overlap applications.A 351 in a super-cab 350 is the same as a 150 standard cab w/tow package and A/C which is the same as a 250 with a 300/6 standard cab heavy-duty without A/C.
