I have a 76 F-100 with a 360 in it that I'm building into a mud truck. Well, I locked the hubs in and put it in 4 wheel high to go climb some hills yesterday, but when I got done, it wouldn't go back into 2 wheel drive and the hubs wouldn't unlock. I already tried rolling it backwards without turning the wheels to try and get the hubs to unlock but it didn't work. I would appreciate any help on this problem. Thanks
Ogre, you didnt say if it ever went back to 2wd. If it's a NP205 like I run the hubs will not release until the trans case is in 2wd but it might be sticky hub locks also and like the other post said ,it can't hurt to pull them apart and clean them up, good luck.
The hubs probably have driveline pressure on them and like Nod
said, you need to get out of 4x4. You may be able to jack the front wheel off the ground and rock it back and forth to get it
unlocked.
Ogre, mine does the same thing, I have to drive in reverse for about ten feet or so but sometimes it is stubborn and I have to hit the throttle and rock it sometimes, nothings perfect! If this does not work I would check the linkage to see if its broke or has something stuck in it, good luck.
