trans help

I have a 96 explorer. About a month ago the trans developed a shudder while going into od. It doesn't do it in any other gears. It only lasts until it gets into od. Any suggestions. I changed the fluid abot 17000 mileas ago. Is it possible to use the merc v to see if that takes care of the shudder?

Have you pulled the codes? There may be a code stored even though the CEL isn't on.

Renchr56, yes I'd try the Mercon V. It was developed specifically to address this OD shudder. If you have a suction pump, you can do an exchange, drive it to mix, then do a couple other exchanges. Or you can do a drain using one of the cooler lines, while adding 2 quarts at a time. Don't let it run dry.

LubeGard in the Red bottle is a good additive, if you want to try it. I use it in my 5R55E (2000 Explorer).
