i installed a intercooler on my 96 crewcab know it has a sever turbo lag is there a way to get rid of this , maybe a smaller exhaust housing on the turbo? before the cooler i was getting 20lbs of boost know i get 10 max, the houses and pluming for the cooler was check for leaks doesn't seem to be leaking
Hay Kens crewcab, I have some question. where did you get it? how long did it take to install? How much did it cost? and can you get some pics I would really like to see it, it sounds really cool.
Ken, are you running a chip?, injectors? It's my understanding that when you add an IC and don't have a chip & or injectors to add fuel, the map sensor "sees" less boost and holds back on the fuel curve. This causes the lag.I just installed a SD IC but I'm waiting to the piping until I install some injectors.
the biggest reason for the added boost loss going stock to intercooled on a stock truck is the added slight lag but thats due to having that much more volume to compress. should be about a 4 psi drop.
a 1.0ar exaust housing will loose most of that lag that you suffer from the ic install. some of the loss is due to the extra volume but most of it is from the cooling of the boost air. i get better fuel mileage with the intercooler than without due to the denser air charge.
i've been reading the 1.0 housing is if you have slight over stock injecters [baby swamps] but the .84 housing for stock injecters. i check the piping tonight all clamps nothing seems to be leaking , i drove the truck on a long hill 2mls and the boost did come up to 16 so i think it the lag that is my problem. whats the thoughts on the .84 housing[ alot cheaper than injecters]
