Hello Y'all - I'm new to the forum - A lot of good info here - any info would be appriceated!!!
-98 exp
-4.6l
-80k miles
-No major engine problems in the past with this truck
Problem:
My wife's exp started running running really rough today - the chk engine light started flashing. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery, and it stopped flashing. There is a ticking sound coming from the pass side head that was never there before.
What I have done so far:
I topped the tank off with gas from my regular station, but still have the same problem.
I pulled the wires on the pass side coil pack and each one was giving spark. The truck was almost on empty, so the wife put about 10 gals of gas in from an unfarmiliar filling station just before the problem started.
I unplugged the #1 injector and the idle smoothed out significantly - What's up with that???
Solution - Any ideas?
I am going to AutoZone tommorrow to get the codes pulled. I also plan on changing the wires, plugs, egr sensor, hopefully that will help. Any other ideas - has anybody had a similar problem?
Sounds like the upstream O2 sensor, let the Zone dude pull the code and reference it to be sure. It could be a bad coil pack (cop) also, the code will tell you which cylinder if it is.
You should be able to go 100k or so between plug changes....btw cops cost $49 a piece from the Zone...so if your doing plugs, just check your boots for cracks and such. Check your hoses/vacuum connections, typical lite maintenance stuff.
The egr should be fine also, just do one piece at a time, your ODB II will tell you what is wrong....well most of the time..lol.
I just got the codes read from AutoZone - ended up with a P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire. I guess I will start with the plugs and wires, and go from there...
