Egt Question

I am fairly new to the deisel world, I just bought a 02 PSD CC 4x4, iam sure this has been mentioned before but I cant seem to find the answer any where. The probe for the gage is mounted in the exhaust manifold on the drivers side, I can see it from the bottom of the truck.
I am a little concurned about the temps I am getting, oh yea tymer intake,4 inch exhaust turbo back ats dual.
out side air temp 85
pulling a 5K pound trailer up hill and it doesnt take long to get to 1000*.
I am worried because when I put on my fifth wheel which is alot heavier I dont want to run into problems.
Can someone give me numbers on this for where the probe is placed?
Thanks

maxiumum sustained EGT is recommended at 1250* for no problems. you can go up to 1350* for a few seconds, but dont stay there for too long or youll be melting stuff and the tolerances will be getting too small, possibly causing the engine to lockup.

That's normal numbers pulling a trailer. The never exceed degree is 1250. You can do 1000 all day long.

The main difference is if it's pre or post turbo. Post turbo - subtract about 300 degrees to be safe, the turbo absorbs a lot of heat.

You gotta lot of cooling and the DP tuner is good at keeping EGT's down. Fact is good quality chip offers more then just raw power

I have read lots of places that you can run a PSD AT 1250* all day - just not over! While towing - I let off a little when she get's up near 1200* though and keep it under.

Yet another reason I'll be going to a Jody chip!

My EGTs are definately lower now that I have Jody's chip, when compared to the Predator I was running.

Great question...thanks to those responding!

Let me add this...what is a good temp to set a cool down for? My edge will allow a temp to be set so you can walk away from the truck and it will idle until the turbo cools/egt temps come down. For many reasons I don't want to be idling for any longer than is required. Yet, I certainly want to do what is good for the turbo and use what I think is a great feature to my advantage.

300 degrees or below. But honestly unless you have been towing, it will easily cool down to those temps by the time you pull into your spot, put the sunshade up, turn down the radio and undo your seat belt. I do this every time I shut her down and its perfect every time

You want to let it cool down to 300* before shutting it down

I agree that 300* or less. I have a turbo timer that I can set to leave the truck running, and it's set for 3 minutes. That will usually do it.
