I just took delivery of a 2006 F250 short bed and am looking into bed covers. I'd like a hard cover that is as watertight as possible. I need something retractable because at times the ATV and other tall stuff will go in the bed therefore the "lifting" covers won't work.
I would also like to be able to lock it. Any suggestions on available covers and maybe personal experience with them? Thanks.
Havent had many of them but I have a diamondback and wouldnt go any other way as far as bed covers. IT can carry two atvs, or whatever else you need. A little pricey but well worth it.
I think Pace Edwards and Retrax (sp?) both make retractable hard covers. I can't speak to their quality, but perhaps others will chime in.
I personally have an Access soft cover and I love it. It rolls up against the back of the cab and the bars go with it. At the tailgate end, it locks in solid and the sides velcro down -- you can even adjust the tension of the canvas to your liking. It also mounts inside the rails allowing for use of your bed rails if you need them, ie stake pockets for tiedowns etc.
All in all it's a great package... cost me 400 for the deluxe model after I talked the guy down from 475. Lifetime warranty, too.
Call Retrax up directly and ask if they have any factory "blems". I got mine for $600 and my buddy picked one up for $550. My buddies was supposed to have a "smudge" on the finish, but he has been unable to find it. I also had Retrax cut out the stakehole pockets in the rails for me. I think it was an extra $20...but they cut it perfectly and re-powder coat everything.
I have a roll-n-lock and love it. As far as I can tell it has the smallest canister of the hard retractable covers and it is extremely solid when it is unrolled. Keeps the bed contents dry and safe.
There is another thread that is a couple of weeks old regarding the roll-n-lock vs the pace edwards you might find that one interesting.
I believe I have a Roll and Lock also. The manufaturer's emblem says "E-Bak". I love it too...it let's a little water in. I don't think you'll be able to stay totally dry with this type of cover. One problem if you install yourself....The directions are terrible!! I ended up doing many steps repeatedly because of this. I'm a pretty good wrench, not sure a newbie would be able to get through with these"directions". I haven't thrown that many wrenches on one project in years!! Good Luck...
