Hey has anyone seen the new powdercoat color called almost chrome? I was thinking about having my bumpers and brush guard powdercoated and heard about a the new powdercoat. any thoughts, does it look like stainless or what?
Million, does it look good enough to be on the outside of the truck? My 46 is a war truck and all the outside trim is painted, at the price of chrome I have been considering the Powdercoat as an alternative. Would you consider it a decent finish or do you think it would look cheesey?
Nothing beats chrome plating, and can shine chrome with polish. Powder coating is more applicable in the engine compartment.
Ya, but nothing beats your wallet like chrome either. If I waited til I could afford to chrome all the trim on the 46 I'd be too old to drive it. I figured if I could put something on it that looked half way decent I can have the pieces Chromed a couple at a time when I had the extra cash.
I am not a big fan of it. it looks like silver IMO. i had some parts PC chrome on my fourwheeler and did not like it. it was dull, dosent shine like good ol chrome.
I'd agree with the chipping concern with use on a bumper. The "Almost Chrome" powder from Eastwood is topcoated with clear to preserve the shine. Don't be fooled....it is not chrome, but does look alot like a Jet Hot coated part. Here's my intake I powdercoated with Almost Chrome.
as far as the powder chrome, there are several types available, it can range from a stainless type finish to a bright silver. but nothing can replace real chrome. chrome powders have been available for well over 10 years. our shop get asked the question about chrome powders every day. as far as coating bumpers it would look fine and as far as the chipping, if the surface is preped the right way the finish will be take a very hard hit to chip it. in our showroom we have a fender that has been powder coated and a small hammer attached by a chain to it with a sign that says,"go ahead tkae your best shot".this is a good way to prove that it doesn't chip as easy as some people think and to reply to some of the other posts on this thread, if it looked dull then it was not cured right. as far as salt and road grime destroying it, it should not, we have parts that have been in service for over 5years with the chrome powder and they look just as good as the day the customer put them on. ericj if your truck does not have any real chrome on the outside, itt would look great. but it is not chrome so if you out powdered chrome next to real chrome there will be a bug differance. at our shop about 60 percent of the work is done with chrome powder.
