2000 ford ranger quad cab

2000 ford ranger quad cab
heater defaualts to defrost. checked all vacuum lines, canister, and replaced vacuum relays. no sign of vacuum leaks. what will I check next? engine runs smooth. could it be in the switch on the dash for 4x4? seems that when the switch is turned the heater works fine for about two minutes. any ideas on this would be greatly apprecited.
