Brake Headache

Hi,
Now that I am in the correct place.
I have 2 problems with the front brakes on my 1989 F150 4x4 302/5.0L w/manual hubs 3:54

1. The outer brake pad on the passenger side wore down to metal and destroyed the rotor, while the other 3 pads still have about 40% left.

2. After buying new rotors I noticed they did not have the hubs or wheel studs. The parts house claims that there is only one style of rotor for the '89 F150, but my Hanes book states that some F150's came with "integral rotor/hubs" and http://www.fordonlineparts.com/ lists the following part:
"ROTOR, F150, 4WD, Manual Hubs - F150 1980-91, Includes Inner & Outer Bearing Races"
-I emailed them about this part and was told it was discontinued.

My old ones appear to be one unit, but after several suggestions I hammered on them to see if they would separate....And I still can not even see a hair line crack where they would split if they were 2 pieces.

Does anyone know if "integral rotor/hubs" exist?
If so, where are they, or what are the part numbers?

Or is this a good excuse to buy a new Press?

no i don't think so and i have an 89 too. you can buy them as a unit but its more expensive, from like broncograveyard, i didn't have to use a press just a block of wood, hammer, hard surface(cement driveway) to get them out. Then a bench vise and a deep well socket yo get them back in.

I'm cheap so I would say find someone with a press or just keep swinging. Those wheel studs should come out unless everything is rusted solid. You can buy rotors which already have the hubs and wheel studs but they are much more expensive than just the rotors. I just finished putting new brakes on my 89 F250 and I had to use my press to get the wheel studs out of the hub and to get the hub off the rotor. As jhnhardee said, it can be done with a big hammer and some sockets, it just takes longer. Once you do get the rotors swapped out and the truck back together, make sure you torque the lugnuts to the right torque to ensure the hub pulls to the rotor and sets like it should.

#1 could be a sticking caliper. How easily does the piston move in the caliper?

#1 - could either be a sticky caliper, worn guides, or lack of lubrication on the slides.

#2 - Sometimes the rotor comes pre-assembled with the hub body attached, sometimes you can just buy the rotor itself. They are pressed together by the studs, and they do come apart. You have to pound all the studs out and the two will come apart easily. To put the new rotor back on, you either have to pound new studs back in, or you can have them pressed in. In both cases, you will definitely have to get the rotor turned before you can install it. Pounding or pressing the lugs in warps the crap out of the rotor.

Thanks for the replys,
You guys were correct, the wheel studs were holding the rotors to the hubs. My sledge hammer was making my arm tired and mushrooming the studs, I had to use a 12 ton press to remove them.

The other problem (#1) with the uneven brake wear.
A. The pistons in both calipers seem to move with the same amount of tension from a C-clamp.
B. I do not see any lubrication on the slides where the caliper sits.

How easily should the caliper slide in and out?
