Has anyone rebuilt/restored an 83,84,85 F-150?
At some point in the future I would love to take a short cab 4x4 one of those years, and just rebuild the whole thing. Replace the suspension with a new name brand suspension with about 4 inches of lift over factory ride height. 351, or 460 engine, locking differentials. Has anyone built my dream truck that I am refering to? I would love to see some pictures/hear stories about the process.
looks beautiful... i'm in the process of rebuilding mine right now (except with a long bed and a 300c.i.), and have a decent amount of pictures in my gallery. i'm hoping to make it home for a week for spring break and get a big chunk of the project done. i'm trying to keep people updated as my project moves along, do the same for us on yours...
Sorry Im cleanin up the drool. That is absolutley beautiful!! I do perfer the factory grill but very very nice. What suspension did you go with? What is a C6 tranny? I hear about it all the time but have no idea what it is. What type of differentials do you have? Did you do the work yourself?
Thank you. Yes I do all my own work except for the suspension. I could have done it myself easily but I did in on my 2 weeks leave from Iraq and wanted to spend my time with my family and not under my truck so I paid to have it done. I used the ProComp 6" Stage 2 with new springs all the way around. The drive train is still stock for now (Ford 9" rear and Dana 44 (I think) up front. The gears are still stock too but not for long I hope. I'm hoping for some 4:10 (or in that neighborhood) with a locker in back and some sort of posi up front. I prefer the stock grill too, but this one was on it when I bought the truck. I plan on getting a stock one and painting it black, then blacking out the rest of the truck. Thanks again for the compliment, I really appreciate it!
I have an 84 F150 reg cab/ long bed with the 300 six/ 4spd/4x4. I installed a 4 inch suspension lift with 33" mudders, 4.10 gears, Powertrax locker in the rear, Trac Lok posi in the front. It has a "wrap around" brush guard with 2 Hella 500 lights mounted in it, front and rear receiver hitches. I have the motor built up a little: .040 over, RV cam, 2bbl carb, header, MSD coil...it's built to pull and four wheel. It has the NP435 4 speed with creeper gear, I installed an 11" heavy duty clutch. She's a tank, will pull anything you hook to it, doesn't get stuck too often...just a good all around 4x4 pickup. You can drive it to work every day and off road on the weekend, that's what I built her for. The truck is mechanically rock solid but the body is starting to get a bit rough. I eventually want to do all the body work and and get it repainted. She's been a damn good ol truck for me I have owned er since I was 15 yrs old...I'm 23 now. These trucks are fun and easy to work on, parts are plentiful and cheap; most chassis and body parts are interchangable from 1980 through 1996. The 1/2 ton 4x2s are easily converted to 4x4, about 90% of the conversion is bolt on. I hope you find your diamond in the rough they are a lot of fun.
Yeah, I don't have plans to be able to do anything on getting one till after I am out of college. But I don't know what I would do for paint. I really loved the two tone light blue(or maybe it was just faded on my buddys truck) and white, but a new paint job might be sweet. But then I wouldn't want to throw it into a mud whole or through the woods. But I definantley want to be able to drive on the interstate to work, then pull my boat or hit the mud on the weekend.
Nice trucks ya'll

Very Very nice truck!
A C-6 is or was Fords heaviest 3 sp automatic transmission. Found mostly behind their Big Block engines.
It´s the most recent pic I´ve got, not the best one
It´s a ´84 F-150 stepside
Has a 9" rear with a detroit locker and an almost original D44 with an arb locker in the front, 4:10 ratio and 38" tires (almost space for 44" )
´78 400 motor and a 4g stick, NP 207 t-case.
I´m in the process of changing out every electric wire in it, putting in Auto meter gauges and finishing up the board for the widened box.
Also looking into buying fiberglass fenders and a hood for the front, but that´s on the long term list
