Hey folks, new member and a huge fan of Ford trucks in any configuration.I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. I don't currently own a Ford truck(Lincoln Mark VII, 98 Taurus)) but I've had many in the past. Hope to get another soon. Ford trucks are IMO the best made and the only truck I would buy. A little back ground; My father had a 1970 F-100 when i was a kid, dependable but rotted away quickly as most did. I bought a 72 Ranger XLT in 1979 and drove it for3 years (did a 351 swap to replace the blown up 390) The next owner went to ~200K until the Windsor died. By then the rust had taken over the cab mounts. The 68-72 are my personal favorite Dads next was a 1974 Explorer Camper Special w/360, wimpy motor(IMHO) but a sweet truck Orange\white trim and light saddle interior (I took my driving test in it).I inherited that one. 79 Explorer F-250 Super Cab 400\C6 Trailer Special. Tough truck that I used into the ground (it did tough blacksmith service before I got it).. Since then I've had a couple of Rangers, great for what they are, family members still own a 94 and 95 Ranger. The 95 is Dads replacement for a terrible 82 F-150 that I would really not want to talk about. Monday lemon truck from day one, glad to see it go. I've worked on a few Emeryvilles (this should date me) and driven\ worked on a few Louisvilles (LN-9000, and the like)
I live in Ford Truck country (Northern Ohio West of Cleveland). The 73 - 79s are repeatably recycled here to get another 100K out of them, and the 80 and up are around in droves. Lots of 96-05s including SDs too for the more affluent rural folks. Expys, excursions, etc.
I came here looking for info about the 4.2. A co worker just lost a motor presumably due to failed intake gaskets in a 98. I'm going to help him find the best route to a repair. From my reading, this looks like a place I can hang out and hopefuly contribute.
I was a Ford Master Tech for a number of years (Through 2001)and am quite familiar with most series (cars and trucks). Maybe I have something to offer, I hope. This looks like a great site to become a part of.
I'll hang back and lurk for a while, but If I have anything to add, I'll chime in.
Great site, Tom
