EGR valve problems
i'm having problems getting my '79 F-250 to get through emissions out here in delaware. it hasn't had an egr valve since the day i bought it - only a chunk of metal bolted over the valve's plenum. when i picked up a valve at the local store, the directions tell me to use the old valve to determine size and thickness of the ringed washers to install in front of the valve. now, without an original to compare it to, how can i figure out which ones are correct? just for the heck of it, i went and put it on without any and it runs like crap (go figure), regardless of timing and carb adjustment. local dealer just laughed at me when i posed them the question and the parts store kid had 'honda civic' written all over his face. anyone out there remember which sized hole washer and cup washer gets installed or at least where to look for the info? it is a 3/4 ton, 4 speed manual on the four, straight 6 4x4. that was all the info the store needed to narrow the selection of valves down to fit my truck so hopefully it will give me somewhere to start. thanks
