71 Divorced case ID????

My chiltons shows two illustrations of the divorced case set up, one with a support back to the cross member, one without. How do I tell which case I have and if it requires brace?? I know that the case in truck is not the original. I asked the guy I bought it from. He confirmed it being changed by prior owner, but no idea as to which one. Also speedo cable is different and doesn't fit. Any help appreciated, thanx, John.

the brace back to the frame is just that, a brace.. it makes no difference on the kind of t-case it is. are there any numbers or markings on the casse itself? chances are pretty good that it's either a dana 24 or a np 205...JMO
