A couple questions about my pickup. It has badges that say it is a 'super camper special.' What differences does a super have versus a regular camper special?
Also, I noticed that this truck has 2 battery trays and 2 solenoids (one on each side of engine compartment). How common is this? Currently only one battery/solenoid is hooked up.
I got to say, Ford is impressing me. The engineering, the way things are put together, and the ease to work on things is great. A nice change not to have to have an entire handful of sockets to work on the motor.
Truth be known, this is my first Ford, I am a long time Chevy pickup fan (recently sold my 81 K30). So Fords are still kind of foreign to me, but am enjoying working on it a lot.
Is it a 2wd or 4 wd Well due to it being a super camper special it was probly set up like to help with the electrical load wouldn't surprise me if it had a hi amp alt also on it. i'd do a google search on it type in all info year 2wd or 4wd with super camper special.
If i remember right the supers were all 4x4 and had a dana 60 front and dana 70 rear with 1-ton suspension. Dual batteries with an isolator, high amp alt. And it probly has the 400 c-6 205 combo. Absolutly one of the best trucks for off-road ever to roll off the assy. line.
78 and 79 are among my favorite body styles. I just bought a 78 bronco that has a 400 also. It is a tired engine, and I'm in the process of replacing it with another less tired one. I'll probably rebuild the one I pull. I noticed you post looking for the intake and carb. You might check ebay for the intake as they have been going fairly reasonably there. Also. there is a swap meet in Lincoln NE on March 12th. Also should be one coming up in KC KS a little later on.
Check out the 73-79 forum also for info on your truck.
You guys are dead on. It does have 1 ton suspension with sway bars front and rear, the 400/C6/NP205 tcase. I assumed it had the dana 60 rear, have to check and see if it has the dana 70 or not (as long as I can get off work before dark).
It does seem set up for using a camper.
I had never seen a super camper special, so I wasn't for sure how common they are.
Do you know if the rear end had a limited slip in it? My first impression was no, I can't really tell right now since I have the intake off and the wheels off in search of 33" cheapo mud tires for 16.5" rims.
Sure you can tell, with the rear off the ground and the truck in neutral, turn one of the rear tires. If the other side turns in the same direction it has a LS rear, if it turns in the oposite direction it's an open diff.
