I'm considering building a sandblasting cabinet. Anyone who has done this? I have read articles including one on this site with plans for a 4'x4' box which is what I am considering. I have a 100 lb. capacity TIP 99 pressure blaster and a 10hp Sullair rotary compressor with a 36 cfm at 125 psi. Most blast cabinets seem to use siphon units. Any reason I should not use my pressure unit rather than a siphon setup? Any other tips? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Phil
Go to the TiP sandblasting site: http://www.tptools.com/. They have plans for sale as well as all of the other pieces that you would need. If their cabinet is too big or too small, just change the dimensions to suit your needs.
My brother-in-law is always restoring his 53 F250 it is a daily driver NY salt. He took 2 275 gal fuel oil tanks and welded them together (cleaned out of course) with a door on one end so he can get the side of a bed inside for blasting. Also has a front door and 2 different places for gloves. Next will be an exhaust fan.
Why not just sandblast outside? Put some tarps down and catch some of the sand for resuse. Or blast on concrete then sweep up for reuse. No need for exhaust fans, lights, or time spent making a 'cabinet'.

Four months of snow, and two months of rain. Plus with a cabinet, small parts are a breeze. No mess to clean up, and very little set-up and clean up involved. Of course with cabs, fenders, frames, etc. blasting on a tarp is my only option, but I love my cabinet for small parts.
Sand blast cabinets are the way to go. You can get much better types of media that are way too expensive to blow all over the lawn. I built the TIP kit- it works great. I've never found a cabinet big enough for automotive work- there's always a piece that won't quite fit. If you have the room, make a big one. I've even seen 4 glove models, so you can move down to the other end of a big part (or sand-blast w/ your better half!) Plan on hooking up a shop vac- wire it to the light switch. I tried mine without it- you can't see a thing. A foot pedal is great, too.

The sand goes every where itf it not contained, I once worked in a paintshop and sandblasted semi trailers for repaint, we did it in a large garage enough to park the whole truck in there with plenty of room to spare. The sand went from wall to wall, the sand was quite course almost small gravel like.
Build it yourself....and build it larger than you think you need. I built a cabinet a few years ago, and would be lost without it. Follow the link for pics http://www.geocities.com/fordrodder/blastcabinet.html
