Help with timing

I bought the accell hei dizzy from summit. I want to set the curve before installing. I know the best method is to find curve is trial and error. I was just hoping some of you guys may have some knowledge for me to get a good start. How much total? At what rpm? Any info will be appreciated thanks.

I was unaware Accell built an HEI dizzy for the FE. If you mean electronic distributor, then we need to know what the engine build specs are, the vehicle it is going in and some info on the intended use.

The motor is a 410 with a crane 941 I am not sure of the specs of the pistons yet I know they are made by probe. Ported and polished d2 heads with oversize cj valves. Everything has been balanced. I will be using it for an everyday driver but would like to get where i am going quickly.

What compression ratio do you have?
Manual or automatic trans?
How heavy of a truck?
What rear gear ratio?

I don't mean to sound like I won't help, but without ALL the engine and vehicle specs, it is impossible to give any detailed help. Most FE's like 12-14* initial with the centrifugal advance starting at about 1000 RPM and advancing as fast as possible(without pinging) to a total of 36*-40* by 2800 -3000RPM. The only way to determine how much advance YOUR engine will tolerate is to test it in the truck.

The setup in my distributor probably took about 2 years of tinkering occasionally to get right.
