I went down today to get a quote on my exhaust for my V-10 and the guy suggests that I put on the magnaflow instead of flowmaster, because it has a milder tone. He told me that the flowmaster made the V-10 sound like a rice burner. So my question is is he right or just makeing it up.
personally i think making it up. but yes a fm 40 or 50 will sound ricer like a 70 will not, never heard a magnaflow yet but they make more money on them to start. it's up to you man your ride ,your cash, your ears.

have your muffler guy hold each muffler up to the pipe while the engine is running and while you rev it a few times. You'll be able to pick the one you like. In particular, hold your throttle beetween 1500 and 200 rpm and listen for resonance in the cab, that is the killer. Either muffler will sound OK outside, it's the inside noise you want to kill, Ken
I believe these engines need to have a chambered muffler behind them. I had the Banks dynaflow muffler and I really hated it. That muffler is a "straight through" design like magnaflow. I now have a FM70 and like it 100% better.
It is all a matter of like or dislike with the V10 and the strange noises that come out of it.
The 2000 X we just picked up last week has what looks to be a chambered Flowmaster on it. Not sure what series, or if it is really a true Flowmaster. There are some copycats out there that look like a Flowmaster. This was already on the truck when we bought it.
It's a single muffler, with dual outlets and two tailpipes going to the rear. I think it sounds great. Not much resonance inside the truck, and the exhaust note is perfect. Not ricey at all.
I'll climb back under it and see if I can find out what brand/part number it is.
*edit*
Just climbed under the truck, and I can't see any part numbers stamped in it, even on the top. Flowmaster stamps all their mufflers with a part number, so it must be an off brand. Still sounds pretty good.

When I was looking for a muffler my guy held three different ones up as I gave it gas, one was a FM 40 FM 50 shorter one and a Magnaflow. I chose the FM 50 as it seemed to be a in between sound for me the 40 was a bit loud and the Magnaflow sounded too much like stock imo. I like the delta floww FM 50.
My magnaflow is a big muffler and I think it has a mellow sound. If I didn't say anything nobody would know it is there. My wife did not notice the first 6 months after I changed it out from stock until I told her.
Well I went down yesturday and put on my new exhaust. I ended up putting on the magnaflow with 5 inch tips. It has a nice deep sound to it and is what I was looking for.
