I was having problems with my 2001 focus, 2.0liter engine SOHC and appered to be gas related. It started when driving home one cold evening after work on the highway about 65mph. the car was driving fine then started bucking very hard. When I reached the exit I shifted to neutral and the car stalled. I pulled over for a while and was able to get it home. I suspected that I had some bad gas sincxe I had filled the tank the night before. The next day I put some dry gas in the tank and changed the fuel filter thinking it was due. I was planning on changing the oil that weekend (oil and filters were in the trunk when car started having problems) I did the oil change and replaced the air filter. The car was running bad and took it to autozone to have scanned for codes. Came up with MAF sensor P0103 or P0102 I think. I decided to try and clean it with contact cleaner and compressed air. The eginne light would come back on within a day. I also noticed the transmisson seemed to be shifting hard and I don't think it was shifting into overdrive. My thinking was maybe when I was driving home that night something gave in the tranny due to the bucking. Just as I was about to put the money down for a new sensor I noticed a wire that didn't look right at the sensor connector. Sure enough the wire was broke flush with the connector. I stripped some insulation off and jambed the wire back in the connector. There is green corrosion visible on some of the other wires going to this same connector. The car is running great again and the tranny is shifting normal again. Can someone tell me how I go about extracting the individual wires to replace and clean contacts?
