Gearing Recommendation?

Anyone want to recommend a gear and stall? I am building a 347 for my 73 F100 street truck, and want good off the line performance as well as decent cruise rpm. Motor will have carb, ported gt40 heads, FMS X303 camshaft (2,800-6,200) mated to c4 tranny. Truck weighs 3900#, and will probably have 26" tires. Currently, I have stock stall and 3.25 gears. Thanks!

i like 3.55 gears on the street... still gonna have a decent cruise rp and plenty of power... that 3.25 gear may actually give you the cruise rpm you're looking for though.. there are some calculators around here somewhere, i'm not sure where.. i just did a search and found some on the internet and linked them to my desktop...

I think you already have the best ratio in there now.

I agree with Mil1ion, with 26" tires those 3.25s will give you decent off the line acceleration, and good high way RPMs.

If you went to 3.50 gears, then you'd have better acceleration off the line, but have higher RPMs, and that little bit of a difference isn't worth $800 or so to have all that work done.

I was kinda leaning to staying with the 3.25 gears with the 26" tires, I think jumping to a 3.50 would be too much for highway cruising. Any thoughts on a converter. Should I stay with the stock converter? What's the stall of a stock c4 converter?

If that is true Mil1ion I definitely need to probably go with a 1,500-2000 rpm stall wouldn't you think? Especially with a cam that makes power between 2,800 and 6,200.
