I have a 1997 ford f150 larit 5.4was wondering how i can tell that i have the tow package..how can i tell that the radiator has been upgraded and will it have transmission oil cooler?? i think i have the 7 pin harness??what should i look for to see about the radiator??
If the 7 pin harness is there, and factory it should have trailer tow. You should have a trans cooler in front of the radiator. Follow the trans lines and they should lead you to the cooler.
In 1997, the Trailer Towing Group (option 535) included the following: 3.73 rear axle ratio 7-Wire Trailering Harness Class III Hitch Heavy Duty Service Package (option 53C) which includes: 130 Amp Alternator Heavy Duty 78 Amp Battery Super Engine Cooling Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooling (w Auto Trans)<O</O
I have a ’97 F250 Light Duty with a 5.4L and this equipment, looking inside the bumper opening is two small coolers, the larger water cooled one to the left is a trans cooler, the smaller air cooled one on the right is a power steering cooler. A factory equipped harness will have ford inscription on the plug cover.
If your truck was built with the Class III trailer towing package, this includes the 7 pin wiring harness, Class III frame-mounted hitch receiver, heavy duty shock absorbers, 72 amp hour battery, and a transmission auxillary oil cooler.
My 2002 King Ranch Lariat also came with a wiring harness for connecting a brake controller, and a couple of relays. One is titled as the Trailer Tow Battery Charge Relay, and the other as the Trailer Tow Backup Relay. Check your owners manual for the location of these relays in the under hood power distribution box.

Mine also came with a brake control harness, also included an adapter for seven to four pin connection. When I bought the truck new it was in a plastic bag with instructions behind the driver's seat. MrBSS is correct, I had to purchase the brake controller, it is not factory supplied.
