I have a 96 ford explorer xlt 5.0 AWD and i keep the oil changed every 3000 miles. The transmission fluid is clean, not burnt and all the fluids are full checked rear end and front diff. My question is are there any fluids i should change in it other than the oil? Should i change the tranny fluid or leave it alone? some people say change it some people say don't touch it? should i change the rear end lube or front diff. lube? just want to try to keep it up for longer life.
I have changed Spark Plugs, Brake Pads, Air Filter just the normal tune up's.
Have no leaks on engine or tranny very good running and clean vehicle.
My normal maintenance is oil every 3,000, tranny every 30,000, and rear diff every 75,000. My tranny has 180,000 on it now and still shifts and runs as strong as the day I got it. And that is with all the extra power and stress on it. I would recommend looking inot a Baumann shift kit though. Even for the daily drivers that do not plan on doing any modifications, it is a great kit to put in.
I replaced everything in my rear diff about 10,000 miles ago; but that was because of some hard towing and hard running that had been put on it. Under normal wear, the 8.8's take a lot of abuse.
The only other thing I would add to your list is the fuel filter. I've learned it is a cheap part and good to keep fresh every 20,000-30,000. They are rated much more than that for mileage, but for a few dollars, its cheap insurance.
