sorry about your dad.

It seems that many people dont feel any difference when one of the K&Ns are installed. Most people use the lowest octane possible--because of cost. And the 5.0 has a knock sensor--and allows low octane to be used usually.
Better gas milage can be obtained with new plugs, new air cleaner, and new oxygen sensor usually--but your truck has low mileage and a new O2 sensor may not make any difference.
The K&N does one thing, it allows more flow.
More flow is not always needed. The fact is the stock air filter will absolutely flow more than enough air for a stock and even slightly modified motor.
The K&N filter does however do one thing else. And that is it does not filter nearly as well. The reason for this is that it allows K&N to claim 2 things. That there filters flow alot of air, and are cleanable.
There are many tests that prove K&N allows much larger debrit into the motor. THis is how they get the flow rate up. And the funny thing is the K&N Filters will clog up much faster than a stock filter.
Bottom line. Unless the CFM of air required of the engine exceeds the OEM filters capabilities, OR you simply want a reuseable filter, there is no need to use a K&N filter on your truck.
