This must be the day for mirror questions. I have a 93 F-150 4x4 supercab with the XLT trim package. I need to replace the passenger side mirror due to my boneheaded sister's inability to drive through an atm. The mirror is manual, (non electric or any type or remote control), black plastic and the back of the mirror is chrome. It is held to the body with 2 t-25 torx head screws, and I thought it would be a simple matter to remove the screws and take off the mirror. Not. There is something in the door holding the mirror on. My question is: What am I going to see when I remove the trim panel?-- is the mirror going to be fairly easy to remove, or a major project? It is already moving in that direction with having to remove the door panel. Any and all help appreciated.
There is an arm support that goes from the base of the mirror to the inner part of the door. This arm support is about 5 inches long. This arm is secured by a fastener--you should be able to see the head of the screw when the inner door panel has been removed. This screw should be about 2 inches lower than the two fasteners that are visible from the outside of the truck.
You can readily buy one of these mirrors--usually aftermarket--on Ebay.

A related question I might as well add to this thread.
I got a pair of black manual mirrors my friend took off his Bronco I think it was.
They are the factory mirrors that will fit on my truck. However he stupidly RIPPED them off his truck before he junked it and the inner support casted metal arm broke.
Do you think its possible to still bolt these mirrors up and have them on there fairly sturdy without the arm inside? What if instead of the torx screws I used a nut and bolt with locks? If I took the door panel off do you think I would have access to the back on the mounting area to put the nuts and locks on inside the door?
I haven't taken anything apart and wanted some insight before I bother pulling the door panel.
Will there have to be a hole drilled inside for the support if I get the proper mirrors, if so is it going to fe fairly easy to determain where the hole is supposed to be drilled or am I going ot have a tough time with this? I have the farmer swing style mirrors that were factory.
I know the two holes on the door skin don't match up, but thats no big deal.
