6.0 Intecooler Upgrade - Adaptors Needed?
I've got an 6.0 intercooler coming to me that I got cheap, but I've been told that I will need an adaptor on one side of the intercooler because it is a different size that the stock one on the 7.3. Anyone know anything about this or have experience with it?
As always, thanks for the help!!

for now im going to stay away from the 6.0 ic, ive heard of alot of them that have blown out even on stock 6.0s...i would definatly pressure test them...a time or two as some things can hold alot of pressure once but when it reaches that pressure again it wont hold anymore...just my .02, might think about the banks if i can find one for a reasonable price(yah right..banks...reasonable..ha <--look i made a funny)

Here are some posts from the other site that might help.
The inlet is smaller on the new intercooler, same size 3" as the intercooler tubes. The outlet is the same size as the original.
The inlet and outlet are also an inch shorter so we needed to fill this gap and figure out the size problem.
The solution was simple. you need 2 napa intercooler hoses Part number 1701 and 1740 and 2 extra clamps
Cut off 2.5 inches of the oultet pipe near the intercooler, passenger side of the truck, save this short piece. attactch the 1701 hose on the shortened intercooler pipe, attatch the 2.5 inch piece you cut off to connect the new hose from NAPA to the stock blue hose. This blue hose fits on the new intercooler. you use the new NAPA hose to add 1/2 to 1 inch of length. Cutting the pipe and reconnecting it with a 1/2 inch or so gap gives you the extra lenght you need.
On the other side the NAPA hose 1740 adds the extra length needed.
Thighten it all up! put the other parts back in place!
also http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/air sells tubes and boots that make the swap really easy and quick so you might check them out, it cost a little more than the napa boots. I guess it just comes down to how much money you want to spend to make is easier. I also belive a few people have put the upgraded banks 6.0L intercooler in a 7.3l for even better cooling. LIDP make a upgraded 6.0L intercooler with 7.3l alum. end tanks I belive, just think of how big of an intercooler that would be, but I am not sure if there 6.0 cooler fits in a 7.3 without mods

Some report only a benefit during towing or hard runs, but I think the improvment in cooling is not that substantial.
Most are pleased with the stock 6.0 upgrade, but if you are planning any serious fuel upgrades later, I would save up and buy a Spearco intercooler. That's what I'm doing. If you can get the 6.0 cheap or free, I'd say try it out.

Agree with what Roland said. It didn't do much for me at all except when towing. If I had another 7.3 and a free 6.0 sitting there, I'm not even sure I'd take the time to install it unless I was constantly on the verge of too high of EGT's while towing, and I did a lot of towing. No affect on mileage. When I took it out and put in the Spearco, that's when I saw a big difference.
