Mini Message Center

Does anyone know how to turn on/off the mini message center? According to my owner's manual there is a way, but it says to take my truck to the dealer.

What model is your truck? And why do you want to turn it off? I wish I had one (STX)

Its a 2005 Scab STX. I don't want to turn it off, I want to turn it on. Not 100% sure, but it appears I have the external temp sensor and the compass module. I also get some messages displayed, but not getting a temp or compass display. I know I don't have the full message center, but I can't come up with any reason to have the sensors other than that the mini message center is there, but not turned on.

Maybe the STX doesn't have it, but my '06 Scab XLT sure does! DocJDement, you say that it has messages displayed on it, what are they?

According to my 06 brochure, "outside temperature and compass display" only available with XLT, Lariat, FX4 packages.

I've gotten several different messages showing up on the odometer lcd, the most common being the door ajar. I would think that if the message center wasn't installed, all I would get is the icon, not a message.
