My '77 highboy needs all new body mounts. I like the looks of the polyurethane ones but am afraid they'll squeak like the spring bushings do. Anybody have enough experience with 'em to make a recommendation? Also, in case I get some bad feedback, where can I get the factory rubber ones, and how much will it cost me? Thanks.
Is this a F250, either way even though I don't have any experience with the poly bushings I wouldn't use them for body mounts on a street driven pickup, to harsh a ride.
Just bought a set for my 79 F-100, I called the local Ford dealer and he told me the front pair alone would cost $75.00 Cdn each. I bought the Energy Suspension body mount set for $89.00 Cdn which came with 3 pairs of mounts, rad support, front cab and rear cab bushings. Haven't driven it yet so I can't say how noisy they are. Hope this helps!
Have them in a '79 F-150 4x4 for at least several years now, no squeeks, just make sure to hang onto the stock flat washers. The bolts I had to cut to get them off and you will mostly be on your own to find replacements(ford dealers didn't have but ones for the rad. mount-the only ones I managed to salvage, of course). It may be a little stiffer, but it does feel much better, my stock bushings didn't really exist anymore and I could move the cab a little before the suspension would move. The thing it seemed to help the most was the steering feel-weird, I know. I would guess it's because the cab doesn't move differently from the frame as it did with the old bushings. It also seemed to help what I'll call the secondary vibes, like when going over washboard roads it wouldn't stop shuttering for a second or two, sorry, don't know how else to describe it, but it doesn't feel that way anymore. I didn't put anything on them when installed, but did check and tighten them a turn or two after a few hundred miles.
I've had energy suspension cab mount bushings on a 77 F-150 4x4 for a couple of years now. No squeaks, but I greased between the body/washer/bushing during install.
I bought some custom made ones from Captal Rubber (a local shop) for about $4 ea. I even bought some extras to do the bed, now I have the stock ones plus an extra 3/4" ones for extra comfort. I did this because I wanted to reduce the vibration when off roading. So far it works great.
No the bed bolted straight to the frame, but this might help with noise. I mainly did it to keep the body lines even, the cab and front ended up raised about 1/2~5/8"
This was a good topic! I'm thinking of ordering a comlete "PROTHANE" kit through J.C. Whitless. It's $119.00 and includes a lot of other "bushings". They imply on their website that different applications are made with differing hardness. What kind of grease is good for the ones that move i.e. sway bar?

Note: I bought custom made ones that are 4" round 3/4" thick 3/4" center hole. I added these to the stock ones and they worked great. You might want to measure the thickness of yours if you plan on replacing the stock ones.
