i was moving a car for one of my nephews friends with the car hauler on the back of the 88. driving down the road, i noticed the steering started to get sloppy. then it got worse, i could barely keep it in 1 lane!! got off the road safely, and start to look around at the front end, thinking a tie rod end broke. nope! what the heck!!! there is over 1/4 turn play in the wheel!!! i get the rig to where the car is going, and now get serious about this, cause it can not be driven anymore. 5 minutes later i found the problem. the rats-a-fratzin nylon sleeve that goes between the consarn upper and lower steering column shafts is missing!!! i had to call my ex partner to come out with the F650 wrecker to get the dang thing home. and now i have to take the column back out of the truck AGAIN, and try to find an insert somewhere.
thats what i get for putting a dang gm on my FORD BLUE car hauler!!!
i set the kero heater up on a block so it pointed into the front of the truck this morning, and pulled the lower steering shaft out. the dealer said the bushing and clip are not available alone, you need to buy the $295 shaft. i said adiós.
made a bunch of calls, emails, and Pm's, and got a call from my ex partner. he still had the old column from the 89. i got over there, and the only thing left on it worth using was the clip and bushing i needed. so the rattletrap lives to drive another day and terrorize more car drivers with the front bumper showing in the rear view mirror
