Just checking to see if anyone has used the vacum pump brake bleeders you can buy at the auto parts stores for about $30.00. Do they work better than the old foot pump method? Do they work better with the antilock systems? I have used the foot pump method for years on my 89 & 92 Ford trucks but heard it works better on the brake systems like in the 93 Aerostar.
They work great until you get enough vacuum that they pull air past the master cylinder seals. I ran into that little problem while trying to bleed a clutch cylinder on an Isuzu Trooper. On that job I ended up shortening the line and re routing it so that it did not have three high points in the line, -stupid system.
Otherwise they do work well. They work real well when you don't have a "pumper" for your brakes. They are also great for fluid changes, nice and neat.
They also have uses for vacuum testing components etc.
